Like a River visit 2

Like A River (2/11/09)

After our first portfolio visit Rob at like a river suggested we worked on roses briefs to help build our portfolio and go in to visit him to get guidance on the work. The 2 briefs we went in with was for an elastic band brief persuading postmen not to drop there rubber bands and a brief called lifeline which is to urge potential suicide victims and there families to ring.

Rubber Band Brief. After a few ideas we came up with making a book which would show 100 uses for an elastic band. The idea being that this would urge the postmen to keep them and fulfill the tasks surrounding the elastic band. We talked through this brief idea and Rob pointed out that we needed a stronger incentive for the postmen rather than completing the stages in the book. The three of us agreed the book was the route to go down but it did need work.

The life line brief came out very positive. Me and Casey went in with a number of scamps and ideas but out research on stephan seigmeister began the main idea rolling. We are going to create a campaign with cry's for help shown through self harm. This is broken down into two ideas so far

Route one.. having the self harm words describing the reasons for the suicide.
The main reasons for suicide rate in northern ireland is divorce, loss of a loved one and debt
This would be shown as imagery with a slogan along the lines of its not always this obvious

The second route.... Showing symptoms as self harm. This encourages family members and friends to learn the signs of suicide and call helpline. Signs such as talking about death, change in personality, lack of sleep and mainly                                             depression.
This would be shown like route 1 but with a strap line act now: save a life

Finally after talking to Rob we decided to work on all the briefs. We sat down and spoke about ideas for each brief and what research we should start doing. Each brief got more exciting the more we spoke about it. Rob showed us work they are doing at the moment for other companies that helped push these ideas further and spent along time going over branding with us. We are going back in next Monday ( 9th of November) to show are development and further our ideas.
