Hello Emma,

You’re more than welcome. It was good to give some feedback, albeit a little difficult in the sense that there was 4 of you! I know you mentioned there was going to be four, so don’t worry!

As I said yesterday, it’s only my advice, so don’t worry too much. Just enjoy your remaining time at Uni. It’s all down hill from there on after!!

All the best

Dave

Hi Emma,

Yeah pop in and we can have a chat again.

Im sorry for being so frank with you all, I think having thick skin is crucial in this business so it will do you good! Saying that - I think you are already seeing how individuals can have conflicting opinions so don't take it to heart.

Your doing the right things by mixing with design agencies though.

You should try http://www.meetup.com/northerndigitals its free and sees students, designers, and developers attend.

Speak soon.

Best regards

Hi Emma

Sorry its taken a while for us to get back to you, its been mental here the last couple of weeks!

As for you coming in to show your book, this is fine. I don't think i'll have time this week to see a load of you tho.

James Corazzo is bringing in a crowd of students tomorrow so I could probably fit you in on Friday? Give me a shout if that doesn't suite you tho.

Call if you get lost and I’ll see you Wednesday. Probably can spare about an hour for everyone, not each!!!

Hi Emma.

I can do Wednesday but I'm afraid the times would have to be a little on the extreme side—namely after 5pm.

If this isn't suitable, I can make time on another day for you.

Just have a big meeting that day, and by big I mean long.

Thanks.

Craig.

Hi Emma,

Thanks a lot for your email. I'd love to give you feedback on your portfolios.

However I think my website may have given you the wrong sort of impression to be honest! I operate as a sole trader and; seeing as I am relatively new to self employment, cannot afford any offices. I therefore still live at home and have get all my work done there.

The aim of my website was to give other businesses the impression that Freshbeat is a much bigger company than it actually is... so I suppose it's worked in this case!

I am actually quite a small-time freelancer and even need a part-time job (which explains my late response) to live off while I properly get my business set up. I'm not sure if you were looking for a larger; more established design agency?

Do you have any of your work online, maybe on Deviant Art?

Good luck with your course!

Cheers,

Matt.

HI David

My name is Emma Georgiou and I am currently in my final year doing my graphic design degree at Stockport college. A few of my class mates and myself are heading into Manchester next Wednesday ( 11/11/09 ) to get help and advise on building our portfolios. We were just wondered if we could pop in and have some feed back ? What right, what is wrong and what is needed to make it stronger? I understand you are busy so your time would be very much appreciated. Many thanks

Hi Emma,

I can set aside an hour for you on Thursday but unfortunately I will not be able to spend any longer with you than that I am afraid because we are very busy at the moment.

I can make myself available between 1 and 2 if that fits in with your plans for your visit?

Thanks,

Hi Emma,

Thanks for your email.

Can I ask how many people were thinking of coming just so I can see if it is possible for me to put some time aside to see you?

Lets say 11am and then you can carry on up the A6 into Manchester if you have any other studios to visit.

See you then.

Hi Emma,

Ciaron resigned from Bourn last month.

If you want to pop in (no more than 4 of you) myself and another designer will spare 45 mins to review your work for you.

Let me know what time you would like to visit.

Best regards

Hi Emma,

I take it you have found me via my website, which is a good sign.  I am not much further along myself, I only finished Uni a year ago.

I am not actually in liverpool at present so cannot give you a hand but I would say a few things to you.

Take on lots of volunteer work to build your portfolio, its better working for free than not working at all.

Apply for EVERYTHING and hassle them for the interviews

Offer people who are recruiting free work for the interim period to get your foot in the door.

It worked for me in the end, it got me a full time job as well as my freelancing.

Good Luck

Ana

Hi Emma

Thank you for your e-mail and for your interest in Splinter.

Unfortunately I have to say no, as you’ve guessed we’re up the wall at the moment and none of us have seconds to spare.

Try contacting the Liverpool and Manchester Design Initiative at t: 0151 709 9066 http://www.designinit.org.uk/

They are Design’s sector support agency for the region and will have loads of advice.

Another alternative is to send pdf’s portfolios or your www. To companies - you’re more likely to receive feedback – please feel free to e-mail me and I can get back to you by e-mail.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes and good luck

Rachael
